Protesters Halt Bomb Convoy
Balloch Scotland -21 November: A convoy that included three
trucks carrying British nuclear warheads to the Submarine bases on the
Clyde was halted by protesters near Loch Lomond. It was the first convoy
since the Sheriff Margaret Gimblet ruled at Greenock Court that Britain's
use of Tridents was contrary to international law.
The protesters, mostly from Faslane Peace Camp, held the convoy at a standstill
while some climbed onto the roof and others locked themselves under the
vehicles. There were seven arrests. Scottish CND had informed regional
Constables that deploying officers to support the convoy would amount to
asking them "to support an activity which has been ruled by a Scottish
Court to be criminal and illegal."
