Last night there was a party here in Tel Aviv - the IndyMedia group moved into new offices - and there were a lot of young people there who had been at the vigil in '98 and at other Vanunu activities. I told them about Sam and they observed a kind of alternative-young-people's ritual - toasting him with whatever they had in their hands (sometimes a pita with houmus) and remembering him as "a totally cool old guy". It was really nice - he had touched these kids despite a huge gap in age, language, culture and they acknowledged him as one of their own.
